Asphalt Millings Driveway Installation in Central Florida
Recycled millings: a firmer option between gravel and hot mix.
Recycled asphalt millings are reclaimed asphalt that is spread and compacted. On the right job they can make a firmer surface than loose gravel, usually at lower cost than hot mix asphalt.
Installing millings is not the same as asphalt milling. Milling removes old pavement; a millings driveway uses recycled material as the new surface.
Compacted millings can tighten up over time and often hold together better than loose gravel, but results vary with material quality, depth, compaction, drainage and traffic. They can be a reasonable fit for long rural drives, equipment yards, access roads and overflow parking.
They are not hot mix asphalt. A millings surface is not as smooth, can loosen at edges and turns, may need periodic regrading or added material, and needs the same thing asphalt needs to survive: correct grade and drainage underneath.

Common pavement and site concerns
Gravel scatters and ruts
Compacted millings can hold together better than loose stone, depending on depth, drainage and traffic.
Hot mix asphalt is more than the job needs
On some rural drives and yards, millings can provide enough surface for the use. Where a smooth, defined finish matters, asphalt is the better fit.
Dirt drive washes out
Grade correction plus a compacted millings surface is a practical fix.

Common questions
- Are millings better than gravel?
- Often they hold together better than loose gravel, but not always. Material quality, depth, drainage and traffic all affect the result, and gravel can still be the right choice for some sites.
- How long does a millings drive last?
- It depends heavily on the grade underneath and the traffic on it. Millings surfaces are maintainable and can be regraded and topped up.
- Is a millings drive the same as asphalt?
- No. It is recycled material compacted in place, not hot mix asphalt. It does not have the same smooth finish or crisp edges.
- Is millings work available for my property?
- Call with the location, length and use of the drive. Whether millings fit depends on the site, so we discuss it case by case.
