Grading Contractor in Central Florida

Grading decides where the water goes.

Grading shapes the ground for drainage, access and the surface it needs to support. Water movement and base condition are important parts of assessing a site.

Tri-State runs grading and dirt work as a service in its own right, not only as a step inside a paving job. That includes cut and fill, shaping lots and pads, correcting drainage, building and compacting base, cutting drives and access, and reworking areas that were graded wrong the first time.

Central Florida sand behaves well when it is worked properly and badly when it is not. It moves easily, compacts well with moisture control, and washes out fast where water is allowed to concentrate. Shaping for where the water actually goes in a heavy afternoon storm is the difference between a surface that lasts and one that needs rework.

Because we pave as well, grading gets built to the tolerance the finished surface needs. A pad that is close enough for dirt work is not necessarily close enough for asphalt.

Grading & Dirt Work assessment

Common pavement and site concerns

Water standing on the property

The surface is not the issue. The grade has to be reshaped to move water where it should go.

Water running toward a building

Corrected with positive grade away from the structure and, where needed, a swale to carry it off.

Soft, rutted ground that will not hold traffic

Usually uncompacted or contaminated material. It gets reworked and compacted, or replaced.

Pad needed for a build

Cut, filled, shaped and compacted to the grade the structure or surface requires.

Grading & Dirt Work project planning

How the job takes shape

  1. 1

Walk the site and find the water

Where it comes from, where it collects, where it needs to go.

  2. 2

    Establish target grade

Working from the plans where there are plans, and from drainage logic where there are not.

  3. 3

    Cut, fill and shape

Material moved, spread and shaped to grade.

  4. 4

    Compact

Moisture and lift thickness controlled so the section holds.

  5. 5

    Finish to tolerance

Finish grade set for whatever comes next, whether that is asphalt, concrete, millings or sod.

Discuss the site condition, drainage, access and intended use when requesting an estimate. Ask for a written scope so you can compare the proposed work.

Common questions

Do you do grading as a standalone job?
Yes. Grading and dirt work is its own service here, whether or not anything gets paved afterward.
Can you fix an area that holds water?
That is a large part of what this work is. We look at where the water comes from and where it can go, then reshape the grade to move it.
Do you place and compact base material?
Yes. Limerock and recycled base placement and compaction are part of the service.
Do you handle general excavation?
Ask us about your specific job. We would rather tell you plainly whether it is in our lane than take work we are not the right fit for.
